Tatanagar railway station will soon get its third overbridge, a welcome addition to passenger amenities on offer.
The engineering wing of Tatanagar railway has prepared a blueprint of the Rs 2 crore project. The third foot overbridge would come up next to the first foot overbridge at the Kharagpur end of the railway station.
It will connect platform no 1 with the other four platforms.
Currently, the A1 category station has two foot overbridges. The second one costing Rs 1.90 crore was inaugurated in October last year.
Tatanagar station director H.K. Balmuchu, while confirming this to The Telegraph Online, said that Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway (SER), had cleared the proposal of a third foot overbridge sent by the Chakradharpur railway division.
"The third foot overbridge would come up at the Kharagpur end of the railway station. The new foot overbridge which will be an addition to passenger amenities will have facility of a ramp so that wheelchairs, battery vans and parcel trolleys can also be used,” the station director said.
The third foot overbridge is expected to greatly ease passenger rush, especially during peak hours, regular commuters agree.
Sources in Chakradharpur railway division revealed that a survey team from the SER headquarters in Calcutta would soon inspect Tatanagar railway station for the foot bridge project.
Tatanagar railway station with five platforms is the most busiest station under Chakradharpur division. The station serves over 90 mail, express and other passenger trains everyday recording a footfall of around 50,000 passengers.
But because of the coronavirus induced lockdown only five trains pass through the station these days.
