Covid-19 cases are waning fast in the steel city, but the pandemic deaths remain high constantly, causing a concern for the health department here.
During the past 24 hours, only 204 people were reported positive out of 6,500 sample tests carried out in the steel city and rural areas of the East Singhbhum district. However, what is causing a matter of concern is that three persons died of Covid during this period. Significantly, those died of the Covid includes a doctor.
District epidemiologist Mohammed Ashad said though the three who died on Monday had comorbidity, Covid will be considered for the cause of deaths as all the three were Coronavirus positive. "Old age, comorbidity and chilling cold might have made their condition miserable, but after catching the virus, their condition must have turned fatal, " said Ashad while talking to The Telegraph Online.
He pointed out that on an average three persons are dying of Covid in the steel city every day which is a matter of great worry for the health department. The district epidemiologist, however, claimed that keeping the pace of the decreasing number of positive cases in the city, it could be said the daily count may come down to 40-50 cases a day by day end of February first week.
The deceased doctor, Basant Singh Munda (55) was suffering from kidney and liver ailments and had been shifted from Khasmahal-based Sadar Hospital to Tata Main Hospital on January 20. He was a resident of Sonari and posted as a medical officer at the Primary Health Centre in Jadugora. With the death of Munda, as many as 15 doctors died of Covid in the steel city during the past two years.
