Altogether 33 laborers of Giridih and Hazaribagh district facing difficulty in West African country of Mali due to being ditched by the contractor who were lying deprived of salaries and other facilities since the last three months and have appealed for help through social media have received positive response from the state government.
All this as Jharkhand Labor Minister, Satyanand Bhokta has directed the state migrant control room to provide all necessary support to the laborers lying trapped in a room in Mali.
The migrant cell on other hand contacted the manager of the contractor Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited and also the Indian Embassy in Mali to ensure the well being of the labourers.
The migrant cell informed the minister that based on it’s initiative through the Indian embassy the company has started providing food to the laborers. The cell further informed that the Indian Embassy has also called the contractor and company to the embassy for discussion.
Notably , Mohammed Sartaj Alam, a journalist raised the issue of the pathetic situation of the labourers through twitter and appealed to chief minister messaging“33 laborers of Jharkhand trapped in the African Country Mali. These innocent laborers who were cheated did not even get their salaries. All are pleading to return to their homeland in #Jharkhand. Kindly provide facility for their return”.
The tweet of Alam also contained a video in which the laborers were shown lying trapped inside a room appealing to the Jharkhand Government to extend help to them and claiming that they have only one day of food left before them.
Sita Soren, Jama MLA of JMM and sister in law of Chief Minister, Hemant Soren also retweeted the tweet of Mohammed Sartaj Alam demanding immediate steps for repatriation of these laborers lying trapped in Mali.
This apart, Jagarnath Mahto, Jharkhand Education Minister has also raised the issue of the migrant laborers lying in Mali and later thanked labor minister Satyanand Bhokta over the update regarding the well being of laborers provided by the minister.
Ankit Rajgarhia, a Dhanbad based social activist, who have raised the issue of well being of laborers several times earlier, said “though we happy over the initiative of state migrant control center taken at instruction of Labor ministers but at same time we would also take the opportunity to appeal to government to create a system whereby all laborers leaving our state to go other states or abroad to work are required to submit all their details including phone number and address in their respective native places police station”
“The police on the other hand should be entrusted with the task of taking stock of the well being of these labourers on fortnightly basis to prevent such incidents” said Rajgarhia.
