Two couples fell victims to bike-borne criminals who were on a snatching spree on Straight Mile Road near Baug-e-Jamsheed under Bistupur police station area late on Wednesday night.
Though the crimes took place around 9.30pm on Wednesday, police have not been able to crack the case. Kamal Kishore and Reshmi Devi, who are residents of Zone No III in Birsanagar, were robbed of silver ornaments, house keys and other important documents. Bhabdeep Singh and wife Vinita Singh, residents of Baradwari, had to forego Rs 10,000 cash and a smartphone. The spot where the snatchings took place was bustling with commuters.
Despite so much traffic on the road, the criminals first snatched the bag from Rashmi Devi and subsequently snatched the bag from Vinita Singh in quick succession.
After the second incident, a crowd gathered, attracting the attention of the Mobile Tigers (cops on bike patrol). The Mobile Tigers headed over to the Sakchi area, towards which the snatchers had fled, in vain.
Deputy superintendent of police (composite crime room) Arvind Kumar said that they had tried to trace the criminals from CCTV footage but the snatchings occurred at spots beyond the range of the surveillance cameras.
“We are still trying to trace the criminals involved in the twin snatching incident at Bistupur by checking the CCTV footage from the Baug-e-Jamsheed crossing,” DSP Kumar told The Telegraph.
