A boy in class 11 lost Rs 6.32 lakh while playing PUBG, an online multiplayer game, while purchasing in-game outfits and weapons.

The boy, a student of a prominent school in Hazaribagh and resident of Mission road, has been playing the game for the past three months using his father’s bank account to transfer money.

The boy’s father is a locomotive driver posted at the Hazaribagh railway station.

Cyber cell officials said the boy’s father contacted them after coming to know about the loss of the hefty amount from his account.

His son had asked for his smartphone, which was linked to the father’s bank account, to attend online classes.

Upon investigation, the boy said that he was addicted to playing PUBG.

He said while reaching higher levels, he needed a warrior’s outfit and advanced weapons to go ahead so used his father’s card to purchase the same.

He also purchased the in-game equipment for his friends.

His purchases used up as many as four passbooks, the details of which were given to police.

Officials said all transfers were done legally, so it was not a case of online fraud.

A cybercrime official in the district who handled this case, said parents should monitor what their children are doing while using smartphones.
