Independent candidate from Jamshedpur East Saryu Roy on Thursday said he will start a poll khol abhiyan (poll exposé mission) against chief minister Raghubar Das from Friday.

“I will announce with proper documents corruption that happened under the Raghubar Das government every day from tomorrow (Friday) and ask the chief minister why no action was taken against the culprits,” Roy said.

Roy, the sitting Jamshedpur West MLA, is fighting as a rebel candidate after being denied the BJP ticket.

“My fight is not against any party but against the terror of an individual and his family which has created fear in Jamshedpur East and does not treat people as human beings,” Roy said. “My sources in the BJP have said that fighting the polls under Raghubar Das would not let the party bag more than 15 seats in the Assembly elections this time,” he added.

Roy said he visited the Moharda area in Birsanagar on Thursday. “It was quite pathetic to see people living under tarpaulins near their houses of decades which were demolished by the administration. I have assured them that I will take up their cause and no settlement would be allowed to be demolished in Jamshedpur East henceforth without proper rehabilitation or finding alternative sites. Those who have indulged in politics for more than two decades over ownership rights for slum dwellers are now trying to escape from the issue citing CNT Act. If law can be made for Delhi slum dwellers what is preventing the same in Jharkhand?” said Roy.

Providing ownership rights to slum dwellers has been Das’s poll plank for years.

Roy took a dig at Das’s “double engine sarkar”: “While one engine is applying accelerator, another engine is applying brakes.”
