The Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority (JIADA) has come forward to take measures on water supply issues for more than 500 micro, small and medium enterprises and companies in Bokaro.

A large number of illegal connections have hampered smooth water supply to the companies.

Moreover, two water towers, with a joint capacity of about five lakh gallons, required cleaning, as they have lately been supplying impure water.

There are about two dozen industries that require substantial amounts of water for production.

The authority gets its water supply from Garga dam.

Earlier, the public health engineering department looked after water supply to the industries.

However, recently, with a spurt in illegal connections and other issues, the department handed over the responsibility to the trade authority and provided only expert support.

The secretary of the JIADA, Bokaro region, Sundeep Kumar, said they would begin a survey soon to identify illegal connections and other difficulties.

The JIADA industrial area is divided into four phases. Phase I has a few locations where there is no water supply.

Some industrialists had also met Kumar and requested him to take steps to clean the two water towers that have been unwashed for the past several years.

The officials said during the survey they would identify the companies that are using water illegally, said Kumar.

Hutments on JIADA land and villages located nearby are also by tapping supply pipelines illegally.

The JIADA officials also appealed to the industries to clear their water supply dues soon.

Kumar said they were trying to set up a smooth water supply system as soon as possible.

JIADA Bokaro regions hosts big companies like Dalmia Cement, SAIL-Bansal Service Centre, paper mill, rolling mill and a brewery.

A meeting will be conducted with JIADA regional director, Mukesh Kumar, and entrepreneurs in this connection.
