The Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) took the lead in removing illegal hoardings and posters from public places, buildings and roundabouts as soon as the Assembly poll dates were out on Friday evening and the model code of conduct came into force.

Assembly polls for seats of Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas will take place in the second phase, December 7.

The urban civic body engaged workers to pull down banners, posters and hoardings of political party leaders near Gandhi Maidan and those attached on the statue of Khudiram Bose and on the Jai Prakash Narayan Setu (the new Mango bridge).

More than 50 hoardings and banners from those areas were removed.

Similar drives will be taken up in areas under Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Jugsalai Municipality on Monday.

“We will ensure that the model code of conduct is implemented in letter and spirit. Any lapse on the part of the parties will invite stern action,” said MNAC special officer Deepak Sahay.

Sahay added that the DC of East Singhbhum Ravi Shankar Shukla had ordered that political banners, posters, pamphlets and publicity materials be withdrawn from government offices and public places within deadline, failing which FIRs would be filed against those political parties.

The process of identifying sensitive polling booths in East Singhbhum is also on.
