One person was killed due to a roof fall during illegal mining in Dahibari area of Panchet Police station about 40 km from Dhanbad district headquarters this morning.
The incident took place in the closed C Patch (a mining site) of Dahibari Colliery of Chanch Victoria of BCCL during which three more persons also sustained injuries but fled away from the site fearing police action on charges of illegal mining.
According the eyewitnesses, the incident took place at around 8 am in the morning when dozens of people were carrying illegal mining in closed colliery for carrying out sell of stolen coal to the illegally operated soft coke units situated in Ledaharia and Kethardih area of Nirsa block of Dhanbad.
As a large chunk of coal mass, known as mines roof suddenly collapsed in the mining tunnel due to unscientific mining four people got trapped out of which three somehow came out as they lying on the fringes of coal block but Suraj Sao of Panchet suffered serious injury.
Family members of Suraj who somehow extricated him lying trapped under the coal chunk first took him to local nursing home, Popular nursing home for treatment but due to his serious condition he was later referred to Sahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College and Hospital but he died on way to the hospital.
Family members of the deceased denied his death due to roof fall in the illegal mining operation claimed that he died due to felling down on road due to skidding of motorcycle.
CISF jawans come out of the BCCL mine in Jharia Shabbir Hussain
In another incident that took place in closed victory colliery of BCCL in Batacola Area of Jharia armed cable thieves entered into the mines during the wee hours of thursday for carrying out cable loot.
The BCCL officials informed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after which a team of CISF led by inspector Vishal Kumar also reached at the site this morning and carried out search of the cable thieves inside the mine but they somehow escaped from the mine using an underground tunnel.
Ajay Kumar Bhuian, Colliery Manager, while talking to media said, “The theft of electrical cables and other machineries like pumps are a regular feature but they have informed the local police several times about the misdemeanour of thieves but not even the FIRs are registered compelling them to call the CISF today.”
