The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, inaugurated a two-day alumni meet on Saturday.

Most preferred to take a round of the campus while recalling their days and how the campus was different then.

“So many things have changed, including the name. It was initially called Regional Institute of Technology and then renamed National Institute of Technology in 2002. The buildings, office, and the main building remains the same. When you visit your institute, it brings back a lot of memories that you have cherished with your friends. It is always a joy to come back,” said S. Kallan from the 1969 batch.

The 1969 and 1991 batches are celebrating their golden and silver jubilee respectively but 1962, 1974, 1977, 1978, 2002 and 2004 batches were also present. More than 175 alumni members registered themselves for the event, with the largest participating batch being 1991.

The day began with felicitation of elderly professors followed by memento handing out to the participating alumni members. The members visited the campus especially their hostels. A nukkad natak (street play) and a performance by a band was organised for the alumni members.

The alumni also presented a PowerPoint on how the institute could be improved.

“Most of the alumni members suggested improved industry-academia relationship so that more practical knowledge could be shared with the students before they join their respective careers,” said Shivam Srivastava.

On Republic Day on Sunday the alumni members will participate in the flag-hoisting event followed by tree plantation on the campus.
