Morning walkers noticed the floating body around 8am. Someone then informed the police.

A bystander said the police fished out the body with the help of local residents. “It was a pretty horrifying sight. The body had many marks of injury and was semi-clothed,” he said. “Seeing a body like this in a place like Hehal speaks volumes of the worsening law and order in the capital.”

Sukhdeonagar OC Sanjay Kumar confirmed the recovery of the body but expressed his inability to share details in the interest of the probe.

“There was no sign of decomposition. The deceased appears to be in his 30s. The body was shirtless. He has not been identified so far,” OC Kumar said.

He added that a murder case had been filed and the body sent for autopsy at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The autopsy report will shed light on the cause of death. Except this, I am not in a position to share anything else. The matter is under investigation,” OC Kumar told The Telegraph.

Another police official added that it appeared prima facie that the man was killed elsewhere with a sharp-edged weapon and then dumped in the pond with the aim to delay recovery. “We are waiting for someone to claim the body to proceed further. After the incident, security has been beefed up in the locality. We are collecting CCTV footage of the locality to get some clue,” the police official said.
