Minor bike rider killed after the two-wheeler hit road divider in Gamharia

Deceased identified as Shubham Kumar was returning home having dropped two girls at the Tatanagar station at about 6 am when the mishap took place

A 16-year-old boy was killed on the spot as the bike he was riding hit a divider on Tata-Kandra Road under Gamharia thana area about 12 km away from here on Wednesday.

The victim identified as Shubham Kumar was returning home having dropped two girls at the Tatanagar station at about 6 am when the mishap took place on the Tata-Kandra four-lane. The boy had grievous head injury and the victim had died on the spot. Initially, the body remained unidentified but due to relentless efforts by the local police, it could be identified in the afternoon only.

Despite the victim having no driving licence and was without helmet, he was riding at a breakneck speed and had hit the road diviser near TAYO company gate. OC, Gamharia thana, Rajiv Ranjan Singh said the ill-fatted boy was a resident of Balrampur in Gamharia and was staying at a rented house with his widow mother.

"The victim had taken the bike of someone else for dropping two girls at the Tatanagar railway station. But while returning home he lost control over the bike and rammed into the road divider. As he was at a breakneck speed, he was oil on the spot, " said Singh while talking to The Telegraph Online. The OC said the police had shifted the body to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital mortuary, where the victim's mother recognised it.

According to relatives, two years ago Shubham's father was killed in a road mishap at Kadma and ever since he was staying at the rented house with his widow mother. According to police, as no Traffic police cop remains deployed along the Tata-Kandra four-lane, the youngsters tend to ride bikes at tough speed and without helmets.
