The 39-year-old woman, who went missing after killing her husband and four-year-old son on Sunday, was found dead in a well close to their house at New Colony under Jagannathpur police station on Monday.
The body of Sushma Gudia was found floating in the well by a local resident who had gone to fetch water around 6 in the morning.
“The resident raised an alarm and called others who informed police. Cops fished out the body and sent it to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for autopsy. It appears that the woman committed suicide by jumping into the well after murdering her son and husband,” a local resident said.
Superintendent of police (city) Saurabh said the matter was under investigation and any conclusive statement could be given only after the autopsy report came.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jagannathpur police station A.K. Singh said there was an injury mark in the body, but it was minor and did not suggest anything.
“Such an injury mark could be the result of the body falling into the well,” the city SP said.
A local resident, who did not wish to be identified, said suspicion destroyed the family.
“Sushma’s husband was a labourer. Her relationship with her husband was not cordial as she used to suspect him of having an extra-marital affair. She often used to fight with him over the issue. Suspicion wiped out the family,” the resident said.
