Tourists to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary will soon have another option for a cosy stay at the elephant abode.

A bamboo hut adjacent the cottages in Makulakocha has been built and it will be opened for tourists once its tariff is fixed.

Sources revealed that the tariff was being worked out and the facility will be available for tourists flocking the 192sqkm sanctuary, 30km from Jamshedpur.

The bamboo hut has two rooms, a drawing-cum-dining hall, two attached toilets, bamboo furniture, a verandah and a landscaping.

It has been built at a cost of Rs 7 lakh under an eco-tourism project implemented by the state forest department.

Plans are afoot to install air-conditioners at the facility which will add to the comfort quotient.

The bamboo hut, a stone’s throw distance away from the existing one near the main entrance to the sanctuary, would be a huge draw for tourists coming from Jharkhand, Bengal, Odisha and Chhatisgarh.

Dalma range officer (west) Dinesh Chandra said the bamboo hut was complete and would be available to tourists once the tariff was fixed.

“The tariff is being worked out. Tourists would be able to book the facility by this summer,” he added.

“The facility was shut because of electricity issues. But now it has been redressed,” Chandra said.

Apart from the bamboo hut, other accommodations available at the elephant abode are plush air-conditioned cottages, six non-AC rooms, mud cottage, three staff quarters near uphill Pinderbera forest guest house and a similar facility in front of the main entrance.

Tourists stay at the facilities and take a tour of the sanctuary, watch the flora and the fauna. Some also trek uphill to the Shiva temple, 4km from the Pinderbera forest guest house.
