Daltonganj: A 2 meter wide and nearly 200 meter long earthen ravine across the railway track number 6 in the Daltonganj railway station is posing a threat to passengers and railway personnel living in the railway colony close to it.
Station superintendent of the station, Anil Kumar Tiwary, said, “Last night a male passenger who had got down from the Shaktipunj express train was on way to the Redma locality of this town but he fell in this nullah in the rain.”
The railway official said the passenger was hurt and hurled abuses at the rail officials when as a matter of fact the railways have no responsibility towards the ravine.
The railway official said the Daltonganj railway station has two entry points one from the Rotary school end and the other from the Redma side where the ravine is posing inconveniences to passengers and railway officials who have to jump over it all the time.
Sources said the ravine was all silted and during the rain over the last three days here it caused a very heavy inundation of rain waters in the location posing danger to the railway track number 6.
The civic authorities used a JCB machine to de-silt, widen and deepen it just enough for rainwater to drain out. This is posing a greater risk to passengers and officials.
Deputy Mayor of the Medinirai municipal corporation, Mangal Singh, said the issue will be looked into but he hastened to add the railways should also take some initiatives to provide some relief.
