Dhanbad: With the number of Covid cases rising, Dhanbad engineering colleges have upped measures to prevent the spread of Covid within the campus.

Both BIT Sindri, Dhanbad-based premiere tech cradle IIT (ISM) has also advised B Tech students who are yet to reach the campus to stay at home and attend online classes.

This apart, students staying in hostels have been barred from leaving the campus premise. Separate guidelines for teaching and non-teaching staff have been issued.

Notably, out of 971 B Tech students, 800 have reported to the campus for their second semester. The institute has sent off an email, asking the students who are yet to reach to stay back at home.

When MK Singh, Dean of Student Welfare of IIT (ISM) was contacted, he said, “All Covid protocols are in place at the campus. Online classes are on even for students who have reached the institute. Food packets are being served at their hostel rooms itself. They have been asked to limit their movement outside the campus keeping the surge in Covid cases into account.”

“Due to the surge in the number of Covid cases, a large number of students have voluntarily chosen to stay back and home and attend classes online,” he added.

“Those who have already reached the campus or are on the way will be quarantined for seven days,” said Singh.

Notably, IIT (ISM) had allowed the return of students to campus in phased manner since last year and only a limited number of around 3rd Year and 4th year students (around 131) of these B Tech students have returned to campus.

However, 90 to 95% of B Tech 2nd year students have reached the campus while others were scheduled to reach the campus since January 2 and thus they have been asked to stay back at home.

Dhanbad, Bokaro step up steps to combat Covid-19 spread

Dhanbad: Bokaro, district administration has stepped up measures to prevent spread of Covid cases.

Hotel and park operators have been instructed to strictly adhere to the policy of ‘No mask, no entry’ and to set up provisions for usage of sanitizers.

This apart, the district administration has also constituted several teams for different blocks to ensure that people wear masks and maintain social distancing when at public places.

The public relation department of the district has also been instructed to create awareness by putting up banners, posters and making public announcements.

They have also deputed sampling teams at different malls, parks and other high rush areas of the district.

Talking to the media, Dilip Singh Shekhawat, Chas Sub Divisional Officer said, “The district administration has decided to get strict with implementation of Covid restrictions. Hotel operators have been asked to not allow entry to people without masks.”

“People will have to be self-aware of the gravity of the situation and prevent a second wave-like situation,” said Shekhawat and sufficient medicines, oxygen supported beds and other arrangements have been made by the district health department in Bokaro.
