More than 900 decorators, tent house owners, caterers from across the district extended helping hands to eligible bachelors of economically weaker sections of the society who could not solemnise their marriage due to financial constraints.

A free of cost and free of dowry all religious Mass Marriage ceremony was held on Sunday where 30 jodis enntered into matrimony at the Golf ground Dhanbad.

The day began this morning at around 10 am with a grand barat procession taken out from the venue of the function on board 30 e-rickshaws with message for environmental conservation and the procession marched through different parts of the town including, Hirapur, Hatia, Randhir Verma Chowk and Luby Circular road before returning back to Golf ground at around 12 noon..

The bride's side and organisers who were present at the gate of the function venue offered to welcome the groom's side during the Samdhi Milan function.

The Samdhi Milan function was followed bygarlanding during which all the 30 pairs solemenizing the marriage garlanded their respective partners amidst the huge applause of their family members on the large stage.

This was followed by a religious function held in 30 different mandaps. The function concluded with the grand feast organized by the Sarv Dharm Samuhik Vivah Samiti during which the bride and groom along with their parents and family members enjoyed the food.

Talking to The Telegraph Online Rahul Kumar Bhuian (19) a machine operator of a private mine excavator said, “My marriage was fixed with Asansol based, Nisha Kumari about a year ago but as our parents faced financial constraint we had to contact the organisers of mass marriage function and we are happy that our marriage was finally organised.”

Echoing sentiments, Dhiru Hembrom (22) another daily wage earner of Baghmara area, who also tied the nuptial knot during the day said, “The financial condition of both the sides including mine and my fiancé Chinta Kumari is very precarious and we are very thankful to the organizers of the function who not only helped us to organise the marriage but also provided us necessary articles to begin a new life.”
