IDBI Bank collection agent commits suicide after brawl with girlfriend

Bereaved family alleges deceased was assaulted by cops

A 26-year-old youth, an employee with IDBI Bank as collection agent, committed suicide at his house in Kadma early on Friday morning after a brawl with his girlfriend late last night.

The circumstances leading to the deceased identified as Rahul Kumar is shrouded with mystery as members of the bereaved family claimed the youth took the drastic step on being assaulted and humiliated by the police, the police maintain his suicide was the result of brawn with his girlfriend in a drunken state.

According to the family members, Rahul had brawl with his girlsfriend near hotel Ramada late in the night.

"Noticing the brawl, a group of local youths came to the rescue of the girl and thrashed to Rahul. Two friends of Rahul who were on the spot had also clashed with the group of youths. In the meantime, a patrolling party from Kadma thana reached the spot, leading all except Rahul and one of his friends, Chittu, to flee the scene. Soon the police swung into action and started thrashing Rahul squarely, " said the deceased younger brother while talking to this website.

The bereaved brother said as someone among Rahul's friends had informed about the clash, his father and he rushed to the spot and made the police to spare him.

"We brought Rahul home at Shastrinagar block No 1 in Kadma. He went to bed and in the morning he was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room which was bolted from inside, " said the brother. He claimed his brother committed suicide on being thrashed and humiliated.

OC, Kadma thana, Manoj Kumar Thakur said the police had not assault Rahul at all and he must have committed suicide due to some other reason.

"A patrolling party found two youths, Chittu and Rahul. Both were drunk and injured. As Chittu was grievously injured, we took him to MGM medical college hospital for treatment and handed over Rahul to his family members who had come near hotel Ramada where a clash had taken place involving a girl, " said Thakur while talking to The Telegraph Online, adding that they are probing into the case.
