A unique mobile training centre designed to improve the surgical skills of doctors, nurses and para-medical staff will be on RIMS campus in Bariatu here from March 11 to 14.

Named Johnson and Johnson Institute on Wheels (JJIW), the specialised bus has been travelling across the country since March 2018 with an aim of providing hands-on surgery training to around 25,000 healthcare professionals over the next five years.

According to a statement by the company, the centre will train healthcare professionals in general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, cardio-thoracic surgery, infection prevention, OT management, orthopaedic procedures, neurology, gynaecology, colorectal, head and neck, paediatric, and urology.

Hands-on training using latest technologies will be provided by faculty members comprising experienced doctors and surgeons, the statement added.

The course will consist of modules for upgrade of surgical skills of resident doctors and postgraduate students.

Company area account manager Shashiranjan Kumar said, “The 13.8-metre long and 2.48-metre wide bus can train 16 healthcare professionals at a time. The vehicle will reach Ranchi on Saturday night and will be available for doctors from March 11 to 14. In these four days, surgeons will be trained on suturing (the art of stitching wound), different kinds of knotting techniques and laparoscopic surgery,” Kumar said.

RIMS director D.K. Singh said, “I will inaugurate it on March 11. I think it will be useful for doctors.”

Kumar said, “The training centre will help address the demands of healthcare delivery system and provide better outcomes to patients in India.”

The mobile centre was inaugurated by Harsh Vardhan, Union minister of science and technology, in New Delhi on March 22, 2018.
