A pregnant woman going for a medical check-up with her husband via Ichak Mor, miraculously escaped after meeting with an accident when a speeding truck hit their car. But many others traveling via Ichak on the Ranchi-Patna highway (NH-33), the state's lifeline, are not so lucky.

With accidents happening every month, Koderma MP Annapurna Devi’s efforts resulted in a nod for the construction of a flyover, which the local people have been demanding for the past five years.

Ichak is part of Hazaribagh district, situated 11kms away from town and under the Koderma constituency.

Devi’s secretary, Gyan, said the MP met with NHAI officials and union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, to talk about the 2012 conversion of the NH-33 into a four-lane street, which has resulted in an increased number of accidents at Ichak Mor.

A bazaar at Ichak Mor, situated and two separate roads and connecting several villages from NH-33, along with local bazaars on the stretch, keeps the area abuzz. People traveling on any of the two roads reach on four-way crossing, where vehicles run at high speeds, are at an increased risk to loss of life, added Gyan.

A road that goes a kilometre from Ichak Mor towards Padma has a bend which doubles the danger.

NHAI officials said they would first make a detailed project report, and that everything will be finalised from project cost to length, width and height of the flyover.

Local BJP leader Sachidanand Agrawal welcomed the initiative agreeing on its importance for the safety of commuters.

Others said Annapurna has been actively working on the issue after being elected for the Koderma seat, and finally managed to get it cleared from the union transport minister.
