A huge fire that broke out engulfed a three-storeyed building, Sahu Hardware, located in Jaridih market under Gandhinagar police station under Bermo subdivision around 2am on Tuesday.
Fortunately there was no one in the shop when the fire broke out.
Roughly around Rs 20 lakh worth of goods were burnt. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire station in-charge said it could have been due to a short circuit, but he has not confirmed it. The owner of the establishment, Binod Kumar Sahu, reached the spot late at night.
Three fire extinguishers took more than 10 hours to douse the flames.
An FIR has been lodged in Gandhinagar police station.
Bermo DSP Anjani Anjan said only after investigation it will be clear how the fire broke out.
MoU to revamp 100 Anganwadi centres
The MoU being signed between CCL and administrative officials in Bokaro Surender Kumar
One hundred Anganwadi centres will soon be renovated in the district after the district administration joined hands with Central Coalfield Limited (CCL) to create a better ambience for children in the centres.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the CCL and the district administration on Tuesday. Deputy commissioner, Mukesh Kumar said CCL will renovate 100 Anganwadi centers with a budget of Rs 150 crore. General Manager (CCR) of CCL, A.K. Singh signed the MoU with district social welfare officer, Manisha Vats.
Mukesh Kumar said they aimed to renovate and equip 500 Anganwadi centres in the district.
The renovation of 100 Anganwadi centres will start very soon.
The deputy commissioner said he has also appealed to other big companies of the district. A.K. Singh said the work was being done in public interest under corporate social responsibility.
Circle inspector caught red handed with bribe
A team of anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Dhanbad, on Tuesday arrested a circle inspector (CI) of Dhanwar block office of Giridih while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a poor woman for making a status report for land which was illegally occupied by a land mafia. The accused, Ramji Prasad Gupta, had demanded Rs 20,000 from Rekha Devi.
This was the fifth trap of the ACB in the state and the second in Giridih this year. Superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Ravi Shanker said Rekha is a resident of Bagodar and some people of Dhanwar have wrongly surrounded a chunk in front of her land. One Sudhanshu forcibly built a house theret.
On January 9, Rekha complained about sending a letter to Gupta for necessary action.
On June 22, circle inspector Ramji Prasad Gupta called her and said that your land report has to be made. Gupta called her in his residence where he asked her to pay Rs 20,000. When she showed her inability, Gupta said that if she will not pay the amount, the report will go against her.
However asking for two- four days’ time she returned and decided not to bribe for the genuine cause. Following she informed ACB of which team red handed caught Gupta when he was taking a bribe from the woman.
Body recovered
Local residents found a body in a closed mining site of a private outsourcing company, working on behalf of BCCL, at Bhowraof BCCL, about 18km from Dhanbad district headquarters on Tuesday morning.
The police said a local resident, Rohit Mahto, claimed that the body was that of his father Jagannath Mahto, who went missing around two months ago.
Investigation is underway.
BBMKU exams in August September
Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), Dhanbad which had earlier on June 27 postponed the undergraduate and postgraduate exams scheduled from July 2, on Tuesday decided to hold all pending exams in August September after deciding the schedule of the examination within a day or two.
The university decision was taken during a meeting of the statutory committee held under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Anjani Kumar Srivastava.
