A 40-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant inside Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary early on Friday morning.

Assistant conservator of forest R.P. Singh, who reached the spot, said Dhaniram Birhor, a resident of Chhotabanki village, was one among a group of villagers who were knitting ropes at Chhotabanki village. “The victim went to answer nature’s call and was subsequently killed by the elephant, which was alone,” he said.

Birhor tried to run but fell and was trampled by the elephant. He died on the spot near the village on the foothills. Birhor’s widow Saroti was given Rs 30,000 for his last rites.

Exams off

Kolhan University on Friday postponed all first semester examinations (BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom and BEd), which were scheduled to held from March 21, due to the virus threat. Fresh dates will be notified later.

Shot dead

Khora resident Vikas Mishra, 30, was shot dead and his friend Deepak was seriously injured in a daylight shooting incident at Kaliga Kharwagadha locality under Basia police station area.

Rajrappa

Deputy commissioner Sandeep Singh said the Rajrappa temple will be closed for visitors till April 14 in view of the coronavirus threat.
