The picturesque Dimna Lake has always garnered praise from tourists but lack of washrooms remained a bother.
Tata Steel Utilities & Infrastructure Services Ltd (erstwhile Jusco) has now built four Indian style toilets at Dimna to curb open defecation and to maintain cleanliness at the all-season tourist hotspot.
“It was a long-pending demand from visitors. Dimna attracts lakhs of tourists across the year and we realised that lack of toilet is a basic problem. We have thus built four fabricated structures whose maintenance will also be done by Tata Steel Utilities & Infrastructure Services Ltd. For tourists, it will be free,” said Captain Dhananjay Mishra, senior general manager, Town Services, Tata Steel Utilities & Infrastructure Services Ltd.
Tourists during picnics have rued lack of toilet facilities because the public toilet is 400m from the lake.
While tourists are happy, some think maintenance of the toilets would be a problem. “It is good to know that the company is also responsible for the maintenance of the toilets but during peak tourist season I hope people use it properly to let others use too,” said Vinay Kumar, a corporate executive with a private company in Adityapur.
