Taking note of the heroic efforts of teenager Jyoti Kumari, who pedalled her father from Gurgaon to her village in Bihar amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa) on Sunday launched schemes to help migrants and destitutes.
In an online webinar, Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan launched four schemes of Jhalsa to help the needy.
With this, Jhalsa became the first state legal services authority in India to launch schemes for those who need help during these tough times.
These are Manavta (for children and senior citizens), Shramev Vandate (for migrant labourers returning from other states), Kartavya (for jail inmates and their kin) and the Jhalsa (effective intervention for assistance to people during the pandemic Covid-19) Scheme, 2020.
Jhalsa executive chairman and high court Justice H.C. Mishra also addressed the webinar that other high court judges and office bearers of 24 district legal services committees of the state attended.
Addressing the conference online, Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan said that in these difficult times, the whole nation is under threat and Jhalsa has also taken up the responsibility to help the needy and aid the government in its welfare scheme
“It will be a great sin to sit idle and be mute spectators. Jhalsa has a strong manpower base in the form of its paralegal volunteers. Migrant labourers coming or crossing through the state will be helped by Jhalsa,” Ranjan said.
