“She had severe inflammation in her lungs, and we had to shift her to the Covid-19 ward after she tested positive for the virus,” said RIMS superintendent Dr Vivek Kashyap.

As per official data, Covid-19 has claimed as many as 10 lives in Jharkhand so far. Most of the victims were either elderly or had co-morbid illnesses, according to the health department.

Of the 10 coronavirus deaths in Jharkhand, four were reported from Ranchi, two from Bokaro and one each from Giridih, Gumla, Simdega and Koderma, figures with the National Health Mission (NHM) show.

At least 55 new cases of Covid-19 surfaced from seven districts of the state on Wednesday, official figures shared by the health department said. As many as 24 of the new cases were reported from the Koderma district and 19 from Hazaribagh. Cases were also reported from Lohardga, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Simdega and East Singhbhum, the health department’s figures said.

As many as 30 patients recovered from the viral infection on Wednesday and were discharged from hospital, a bulletin released by the NHM said. Wednesday’s findings take the total count of Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand to 734. The number of patients who recovered from the infection here stands at high 1151, the NHM bulletin further stated.

With the death toll rising, the state’s mortality rate for Covid-19 has also increased to 0.52 per cent. The mortality rate here, however, is lower than the national average of 3.36 per cent, the NHM bulletin said. The recovery rate in Jharkhand is 60.73 per cent, the bulletin added.
