Sporting activities may have come to a standstill during the lockdown, but sport outfits in the state have ensured the continuation of training, albeit virtually.
“Training programmes for coaches, referees, technical officials and senior players are underway online,” said Bipin Kumar Singh, president of Jharkhand Kabaddi Association.
These programmes, he said, are like refresher courses for sportspersons.
Singh said the Sports Authority of India (SAI), which functions under the aegis of the Union youth affairs and sports ministry, had introduced online coach education programmes for more than 15 sports disciplines, including hockey, badminton, volleyball, archery, boxing, weightlifting, judo and swimming.
These programmes cover the rules, technique and movement aspects of the games.
Experts conduct the training sessions via Zoom and anyone interested can attend them.
Topics such as ways to train at home, nutritional requirements during pandemic and sports science are covered under these programmes.
“These online sessions are very informative and will surely help sports officials conduct the events in a much better way,” Singh said. “Our candidates have been attending these training programmes for the past 18 days now.”
Singh said they had recently attended a special programme where famous kabaddi players from different cities shared their experiences online. National kabaddi team captain Navin Hudda besides the captains of Bengal Warriors Maninder Singh and Delhi Dabang in Pro Kabaddi League took part in the programme.
Shivendu, president of Jharkhand Wushu Association, said these programmes provided an opportunity for coaches, referees and senior players to get acquainted with the latest rules and techniques of a game.
“These are sort of advanced training capsules,” he said.
The Wushu Association of India has also tied up with the international association to conduct a separate online programme, Shivendu said.
“The programme will be conducted by international experts from countries such as China during May 12-15,” he added.
