Migrant labourers, who were stuck in Delhi and Karnataka because of the lockdown, are being screened after their arrival at the Bokaro Steel City station on Sunday. At least 2,256 migrants reached Bokaro by two Shramik special trains from Bangalore and Delhi.
The first train that chugged into the station a little past Saturday midnight carried 1,649 people from Delhi. The second train from Bangalore, with 607 migrants, entered Bokaro around 5.40am on Sunday.
Additional collector Vijay Kumar Gupta, station superintendent K.K. Haldar and other district administrative officials were present at the station to ensure that social-distancing protocols were followed while guiding the people out of the station.
All the migrants were given masks, hand sanitisers and food packets before being sent to their home districts on 34 vehicles.
“Most migrants were from Palamau, followed by Garhwa, Latehar, Giridih and Deoghar,” Haldar said.
