Migrant labourers and their families who were stranded in Gujarat’s Surat because of the lockdown arrive at Dhanbad station on Monday morning.
As many as 1,207 migrants travelled a distance of 1,775km on a 22-coach special train to reach Dhanbad around 8.10am.
A total of 56 vehicles, including 45 large buses and three minibuses, had been arranged to take the returnees to their native places in Giridih, Deoghar, Koderma, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Jamtara, Bokaro, Laterhar, Palamau, Gumla, Garhwa, Dumka, Ramgarh and Seraikela.
Senior district administrative officials led by deputy development commissioner Balkishun Munda, police and Railway Protection Force personnel supervised the entire process while adhering to social-distancing protocols.
