Cops arrest two hardcore Naxals

Bokaro police on Friday arrested Ramesh Karmali, Zonal Commander of Ultra Organization, New Members People’s Morcha and his accomplice Mahendra Thakur from Gomia police station area for their involvement in various cases related to extortion demand, unlawful assembly and arms act.

Bokaro SP Chandan Jha said that the duo were arrested during the course of investigation on the firing that took place at the railway siding of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) near Jarangdih Railway Station of Bokaro Thermal Police station area on December 27 last year with aim of creating terror among traders for levy collection.

Talking to the media at a press conference in his office, Jha said, “We have also recovered three country made carbine, a semi automatic pistol, a country made rifle, uniform, six mobile phones and other materials on the indication of arrested persons which was lying hidden in a farmland.”

Notably, around 10-12 persons carried out indiscriminate firing at railway siding of Jarangdih during the night on December 27, 2021 and also stuck three posters at the site claiming to be working for the welfare of common people by looting money from the rich.

Police lodged an FIR in connection with the case in Bokaro Thermal Police station on December 28 under different sections of IPC, including 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharge of duty), 385 (a person for committing extortion puts any person under fear or attempts to put any person in fear of any injury),147 (guilty of rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly, guilty of common cause), 427 (mischief or damage to property of over Rs 50), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and also arms act.

Following the initial investigation altogether five persons including Ajmat Anari, Banti Sao, Sanjay Sao, Dipak Kumar Mahto and Birbal Kumar Singh were arrested on January 4.

Four more members of the gang, including Rajkumar Goswami, Rahul Kumar Singh, Mahavir Soren and Chhotu Mandal were again arrested on March 7 along with arms and ammunition.

And finally the Ramesh Karmali Zonal Commander of NMPM was arrested by police today from Gomia area along with his accomplice following the raids conducted on the basis of a tip off.

Notably, altogether 12 criminal cases are pending against Karmali while altogether 16 cases are pending against his associate, Mahendra Thakur who was also arrested along with Karmali.
