In a significant move aimed at providing protection against the harassment by police and other law enforcement agencies etc, Dhanbad Municipal Corporation on Friday distributed QR Code based identity cards and also QR Code based certificate of vending to 50 street vendors.
The distribution programme was held at the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation office under the leadership of Satyendra Kumar, Dhanbad Municipal Commissioner during which Md Anis, Executive Officer of DMC; Chnadrashekhar Singh, city manager and others including Sneham Sinha district coordinator of National Association for Street Vendors of India (NASVI) were also present.
Municipal Commissioner, Sayendra Kuamr while handling over the ID Cards and certificate of vending explained the advantages of certificates and ID cards in proving the identity of the street vendors and also elaborated about the other welfare schemes being implemented by Dhanbad Municipal Corporation for them including the loans being provided under PM Street Vendors Atma Nirbhar Nidhi Yojna
He also apprised the street vendors about the advantages of shifting to the newly constructed vending zone at Baniahir Locality of Dhanbad constructed under the National Urban Livelihood Mission which are equipped all the facilities including the drinking water facility, proper lighting arrangement and parking arrangement.
Notably very few street vendors have applied for allotment of shops in the newly constructed vending zone as they are fearing loss of customers after shifting to the new place at vending zone.
Md Anis, Executive Officer of DMC said that the certificate of vending and QR based identity cards will be distributed among all around 4000 street vendors of Dhanbad in phase wise manner beginning today.
Notably the survey of vendors spread across the 55 wards, situated in five circles of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation area including Dhanbad, Jharia, Sindri, Katras and Chhatatand began during July last year with the help of cluster resource persons and Town Vending Committee members.
All relevant data including name, age, address, mobile number, place of vending, items being dealt by street vendors, years of his operation have been collected during the survey on basis of which the QR code based Certificate of Vending and QR Code based identity card have been prepared and distribution of these certificates and ID cards began today.
