The three-day championship dog show, to be organised by Jamshedpur Kennel Club from Friday, has received around 350 entries, the highest so far.
The 68nd, 69th and 70th Championship Dog Show, which will be held at the archery ground of JRD Tata Sports Complex, will witness the participation of dogs from Ranchi, Dhanbad, Calcutta, Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad.
“The competitions among dogs of 36 breeds will be held in three different rings at the venue,” Jamshedpur Kennel Club secretary Biswanath Roy told reporters on Thursday.
Jusco managing director Tarun Daga will inaugurate the show on Friday.
The first day of the event will test the obedience of dogs followed by an all-breed show over the next two days.
The winners of the obedience test will get their awards on Friday itself. The prize distribution for the all-breed show will be organised on Sunday.
“We will have Indian breeds such as Rampur hound, caravan hound and pashmi. We have got record entries this year,” Jamshedpur Kennel Club president Ruchi Narendran said.
Other breeds will include Afghan hounds, saluki, akita, St Bernard, English mastiff, bull mastiff, maltese, miniature schnauzer, Alaskan malamute, fox terrier, whippets and rottweilers. Tata Steel Kennel’s national-level award winning canines will compete, too.
The points earned by the canines at the 68th and 69th championship rings will be considered for national-level ranking in dog-of-the-year award by Kennel Club of India.
The obedience round will be judged by J. Rangarajan while M. Viarbitskaya from Belarus and India’s T. Preetham and Sanjit Kumar Mohanty will judge the all-breed show.
