Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) will deploy 20 more sweepers in each of the five circles — Jharia, Dhanbad, Sindri, Katras and Chhatatand — in a bid to step up cleanliness work across 55 wards.

The sweepers will clean roads as well as drains.

The decision was taken at the DMC board meeting held under the chairmanship of mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal on Thursday. Over 50 ward councillors were also present.

The board also passed schemes worth Rs 150 crore for the construction of drains and roads and installation of streetlights.

Talking to The Telegraph after the meeting, Jay Kumar, councillor of Ward 40 of Jharia circle, said: “Though the decision to deploy 20 additional sweepers is good, but 20 sweepers for the entire circle comprising 11 wards may not be sufficient in meeting drain and road cleaning requirements.”
