Thursday poll results promise boom times for florists and band parties in the capital. No matter who wins Lok Sabha elections, celebrations are guaranteed.

Florists are busy stocking up for the big day. The flower of the moment is the politicians’ favourite — marigold. Heavy marigold garlands to impress winners are de rigueur. Roses are less common, though prevalent, especially in bouquets. With the rise of the BJP, lotuses are also in demand.

“We have brought sufficient quantities of marigold, which always is in great demand as winners need to be garlanded,” said Subir Bose, a florist at Lalpur Chowk.

Ravi Kumar, another florist at Ashok Nagar, echoed Bose. “Supporters of winning candidates always buy big. We deal in roses only. Our business won’t be as big as marigold dealers but we will get some orders definitely,” he said.

As declaration of results is likely to be delayed on Thursday, florists said celebrations would be late but supporters in all likelihood would start buying once trends got clear.

Florist Ahmed Nasif, who runs A and N Hastakshar at Club Road, smilingly said many people would buy flowers in advance.

Band party managers are also expecting good business.

“After results, a series of victory rallies are held with band-baaja. We’ve asked our team to be prepared. This is the beauty of the band party. We are always remembered during celebrations,” said Gabbar Bhai, manager of Dulhan Band at Lake Road. Band master Md Saleem of Jabbar Band agreed. “We wait for joyous moments. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a big day for us.”
