The mayor, who had drawn the support of several councillors, claimed that the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation carried out all-round development in all 55 wards spread over the five circles, including Jharia, Dhanbad, Sindri, Katras and Chhatand, in terms of infrastructure development.

This included work on the cleanliness front and improvement of the ranking of Dhanbad, besides a nine-fold increase in the revenue of the DMC.

“More than 20,000 women were provided sources of self-employment and trained in bangle making, detergent production and mask production at training-cum-production centres,” said Agarwal.

He said several parks had been developed in his term, including the Bekar Bandh park in the heart of town. Parks in Housing colony, Lilori Sthan, Katras where a large number of people come with their families, had also been developed.

“Development of a multi-sports complex is also underway at Golf Ground, Dhanbad where people will be able to play tennis and football, besides practising yoga and going on morning walks,” he added.

The press conference was also aired live on Facebook.

Regarding achievements in road development, he said Dhanbad roads had been limited to two lanes and commuters used to face regular congestion.

However, during his tenure, all the major roads, including Jharia Sindri Road, Puja Talkies to Bartand Road and Govindpur to Chas road were turned into four-lane roads.

The development of a 19-km eight-lane road, the only one of its kind in the state, between Gol Building in Dhanbad to Kako Math in Dhanbad, had also been launched.

“The total revenue of the DMC, which was less than Rs 3 crore, reached over Rs 28 crores,” said Agarwal, adding that development schemes of more than Rs 4,000 crore were carried out during his tenure.

Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha recently charged the municipal corporation board led by Agarwal with rampant corruption.

In the last week of May, the state government had given the Anti-Corruption Bureau the nod to conduct a probe into a Rs-200 crore project to develop streets, drains, culverts and lighting by the corporation.
