A pair of minors in love waited for two years, one lodged in prison and the other in a remand home, to finally tie the knot on Thursday.

This followed one failed attempt to elope and get married, in the face of much opposition from their families, as they belonged to different castes.

The parents of the 16-year-old girl said they are residents of Bhatbigha village in Daru and the boy, Tinku Saw, 18, is a resident of neighbouring Irga village.

The two fell in love when studying in the same college at Harli village of Daru block in Hazaribagh.

Daru village is situated 28km from the Hazaribagh district headquarters.

The families objected to their relationship as they belonged to different castes.

When they raised objections, the pair eloped two years ago but were caught by the police soon after.

The families lodged an FIR with the Daru police.

The police sent Tinku to jail and the girl was sent to a remand home in Ranchi.

Released last week after her 18th birthday, she had not forgotten her boyfriend.

Returning to her village, she declared her intention to marry Tinku, who was to come out of jail in a few months.

The parents then talked to each other and the marriage was solemnised on Thursday.

“We love each other and what we had decided on two years ago, we achieved today,” the bride said.

They expressed happiness that relatives from both sides came to bless them.

Police officials said there was no question of stopping them now as they had both turned 18 and free to take their decisions.

The girl’s relatives said they were left with no other option and only wanted her to be happy.
