Local administration along with the utility company JUSCO on Wednesday razed unauthorised construction on encroached land at Ramnagar under Kadma thana area.
Set up on the land which comes under Tata Steel lease area, the razed construction includes three shops, a motor garage and BJP office. Officials from the district administration, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and JUSCO arrived at the scene for carrying out the drive by 10 am, but as it was like a bolt from the blue for the shop and garage owners, the latter requested for some time so as to remove the articles from the shops.
But as soon as the executive magistrate, Santosh Kumar Mahto gave the shop-keepers two hours time, a section of BJP workers arrived at the scene and tried to stop the officials from going ahead with the drive. But as the administrative officials were accompanied with a large number of police men, the saffron brigade could do nothing to prevent the drive. By 3 pm, the shops, motor garage and the BJP office were razed.
BJP's OBC cell district president Dharmendra Prashad said the shops and motor garrage were operating there since the past 15 years, serving the interest of local residents.
"But the administration prompted removed the shops and garage as there was also our party office. The anti-encroachment drive must been carried out at the instance of the ruling parties," said Prashad while talking too the newsmen.
He alleged that the administration did not feel it necessary to serve prior notice before reaching here for carrying out the drive. The BJP leader said if the administration is fair enough in its step, then it should remove encroachment from rest of the areas with equal spirit.
However, the executive magistrate, Santosh Kumar Mahto while talking to The Telegraph Online said, "The action taken by the administration is a routine affair and the shop owners and others had been served with notice a fortnight ago."
