Naxalite-hit areas in Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency witnessed an impressive voter turnout and peaceful polling on Sunday.

Areas like Karadoba, Kashida, Muchrisole and Ghurabandha in Ghatshila sub-division, which were once considered rebel strongholds recorded 70 per cent polling.

In Patamda and Bodam, which also used to be infested with rebels, polling percentage stood at over 70 per cent.

SSP Anoop Birtharay said no untoward incident was reported from any part of Ghatshila or Patamda. “We had made adequate security arrangements in these areas,” he added.

Voters, including women, were enthusiastic about exercising their franchise in the erstwhile rebel strongholds in Ghatshila.

“I had not cast my vote during the last Lok Sabha elections. But as the situation has changed considerably, I have come to vote,” said Sudarsan Majhi, a resident of Narsingpur at Galudih under Ghatshila sub-division.
