Ranchi emerged overall champions with 21 medals on the concluding day of the 50th Mohan Memorial Badminton Tournament

Deyashi Kanjibiliya of East Singhbhum struck a golden hat-trick even as Ranchi emerged overall champions with 21 medals (11 gold and 10 silver) on the concluding day of the 50th Mohan Memorial Badminton Tournament at Mohan Ahuja Stadium in Bistupur on Sunday.

Jamshedpur-based Deyashi claimed the women’s singles title by handing out a 21-12, 21-14 defeat to Ranchi’s Manisha Rani Tirkey in the summit clash. She also pocketed the top slot in the girls’ U-19 singles drubbing district mate Sonali Dubey 21-6,21-9.

Deyashi later paired up with Sonali to wrap up the womens’ doubles title by putting it across Ranchi’s Manisha Rani Tirkey and Zeenat Arra 21-14,21-7.

West Singhbhum shuttler Rameez Alam bagged the mens’ singles crown after earning a walkover against Ranchi’s Safi Akram, who did not turn up.

The boys’ U-19 singles title was won by Gumla’s Ramanand Sahu who defeated Akash Pandit of Giridih.

Ranchi’s Amaan Rahman slotted home the boys’ U-17 title while the title in the girls’ section was claimed by Aadhya Singh (Seraikela-Kharsawan). Aadhya also went on to finish with the girls’ U-15 singles title by prevailing over East Singhbhum’s Sarah Sharma.

The title in the boys’ U-15 singles was won by Gumla’s Priyanshu Tirkey.

Ranchi shuttler Neeraj Kesri bagged the boys’ U-13 singles’ title. The girls’ title was claimed by East Singhbhum’s Sarah Sharma.
