Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller Oppenheimer collected a whooping Rs 34.5 crore nett over Saturday and Sunday, comfortably beating Greta Gerwig-helmed fantasy comedy Barbie’s weekend collection of Rs 13.5 crore nett in India, according to trade reports.
Starring Cillian Murphy in the titular role, Oppenheimer raked in Rs 14.5 crore nett on its opening day and accordingly emerged as the highest opening day grosser among Hollywood movies that released in India in 2023. It added Rs 17 crore nett to its kitty on Saturday and Rs 17.5 crore nett on Sunday, taking its total collection to Rs 49 crore nett in India.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starrer Barbie registered an opening day collection of Rs 5 crore nett in India. It minted Rs 6.5 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 7 crore nett on Sunday, earning a total of Rs 18.5 crore nett at the domestic box office since its release so far.
However, Barbie turned the table on Oppenheimer in terms of worldwide collection as the Greta Grewig directorial has so far managed to rake in an astounding USD 337 million worldwide as against the latter’s USD 174 million.
