A.R. Rahman’s son A.R. Ameen on Friday reacted to rumours concerning his parents divorce, requesting netizens to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media.
Sharing one of the viral memes to point out the distasteful trolling on social media, he wrote a long note urging fans to respect Rahman’s legacy and his contribution to music over the past years.
The social media trolling started when Rahman’s bassist, Mohini Dey, announced her separation from husband Mark Hartsuch a day after Rahman opened up about getting divorced.
“My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread. Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy,” Ameen wrote on his Instagram handle alongside a picture of his father A.R. Rahman beside a picture of a toddler. “So what is the difference other than age?” is written over the image.
He added, “Please refrain from engaging in or spreading such misinformation. Let’s honour and preserve his dignity and the incredible impact he has had on all of us.”
Rahman’s daughter Khatija Rahman also took to her social media handle to address the rumours related to her parents’ divorce. She posted a picture on her Instagram story that reads, “Always remember… Rumours are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
A.R. Rahman and his wife, Saira, are getting divorced after 29 years of marriage. In a statement released by Saira's lawyer on November 19, the separation was attributed to significant emotional strain and irreconcilable differences. Married since 1995, the couple share three children — Khatija, Ameen and Raheema. They have requested privacy as they navigate this challenging period.
