The seventh season of popular cooking reality show MasterChef India will start airing on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV tonight after a two-year gap. New episodes of the show — featuring celebrity chefs Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Garima Arora as judges — will air from Monday to Friday at 9pm.
While Ranveer and Vikas have served as judges for the competition in previous seasons, chef Garima Arora will be donning the hat of a MasterChef India judge for the first time in this season. Garima, who earlier appeared in Netflix’s Emmy-nominated documentary series Chef’s Table, is also the first female judge on the Indian show.
This season of MasterChef India will begin with city-wise audition rounds, which were held in Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi. A total of 36 cooks will proceed to the next round. Out of the 36 shortlisted cooks, 16 will secure a white apron for participating in the final rounds of the competition.
The much-loved cooking competition, based on the Australian reality show MasterChef Australia, previously aired on Star Plus. Hosted by Akshay Kumar — with chefs Kunal Kapoor and Ajay Chopra serving as judges — the first season of MasterChef India aired on Star Plus in 2010. Pankaj Bhadouria won the title of India’s first MasterChef.
The last season of the show aired between December 2019 and March 2020. Abinas Nayak was crowned the winner of the season.
