Her name means “a night without the moon, only stars”. And after Bunty Aur Babli 2, the radiant Sharvari has her eyes set on projects with substance. The Telegraph chatted with the lovely actress recently. Excerpts from the chat.

How has life changed in the last one year?

Life has changed only in the sense of a certain amount of recognition. I see my parents really happy and proud by the progress and the growth that I have had. More than that I think for me, it’s just like an incentive for me to work harder and get better roles and bigger films. That’s actually my aim going forward.

You don’t belong to a film family. What was your idea of fame before you came into the industry and how has the meaning changed for you now that you are a part of the industry?

Honestly, when I used to see things from the outside... these big actresses... I still see them in the same way. There is a certain amount of aura and stardom they emit which will never change for me because I have grown up watching their films, first day first shows.... In terms of my peers, it’s more friends than it is stardom. Now I know them and their journeys. We have spoken....

Do you think the more famous one is, they are that much more humble in real life?

I really hope so... I learnt that from Mr. Bachchan. I remember standing in the green room nervous because firstly, you are supposed to give the right answer (in Kaun Banega Crorepati) and then you have to sit in front of Mr. Bachchan and answer his questions. So, I think it was all the more tough.

In fact, Siddhant (Chaturvedi) and I were so scared. We were supposed to answer the first seven questions and not go wrong with it because if we went wrong, then Rani ma’am (Mukerji) and Saif sir (Ali Khan) cannot come. So, we had so much pressure.... He made sure to come meet me and Siddhant before the episode started and spoke to us at length and he didn’t have to do that with someone like us. I definitely will learn from him... humility and making the other person comfortable.

What have you learned from the people you have worked with?

I think crazy love and passion for the work they do. It could come out in a different way for everyone, but the fact is they love what they do and I have seen that on set every single day. Everybody comes with a refreshed energy to bring something new to what they do... either perform or direct. So, the love for craft and film is something I would definitely want to learn from them.

What has your learning been like in the past one year?

The learning has been to take everything with a pinch of salt, praise and criticism.

How tough are you to bear with everything that happens to people always in the public eye?

The word ‘tough’ and how tough a person is is subjective, but I truly believe that everybody has a black and white. I know to what extent my blacks and whites are and I believe that’s the extent to which I am tough. I believe every person has their ups and downs... but to take it with grace is all I hope to do.

As a public figure and actress, what would you like to tell all the girls around you about beauty?

Anything comes with confidence. There is no set standard to beauty. You need to be confident in whatever you are wearing or the way you carry yourself. The key is to love yourself and I believe everybody is critical of themselves, but social media or anything that portrays perfection is a little bit of a farce and I think everybody should understand this is not a set standard. I truly hope that the young girls who watch me believe this is not the set standard. I have my good days and bad days and I am critical of myself as well.

What is self-love for you?

If I am feeling a lot of love for myself... I am a big foodie... so good days and bad days are a treat to myself... whatever is the best cheat meal that comes to me, I order. My all-time favourite cheat meal is a McDonald’s burger, fries and an ice cream.

Do you follow a beauty ritual?

I take care of skin 365 days a year. I used to have troubled skin growing up. So, I have a tendency of breaking out and acne. I wake up every morning and have a green juice, even if I am shooting or I am at a hotel. It has things like palak, cucumber, tulsi....

What are your fashion favourites?

My personal style is sneakers, denims and crop tops or sneakers, denims and blazers. If I have to go for meetings, I’ll be seen in that. It’s very cool and casual.
