The shoot for popular Netflix series Stranger Things Season 5 is officially complete, and the cast — including Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp and Finn Wolfhard — are buzzing with excitement. As we count down to the release of the final season in 2025, here’s a look at some behind-the-scenes moments from the past seasons.
Noah, who plays Will Byers in the series, said he wrapped up shooting for his role a couple of days back and became emotional about closing this chapter of his life. “Stranger Things was more than a job,” he said, “it was a lifelong dream.”
Noah took this opportunity to express gratitude to his co-stars. While Finn taught him “how to be constantly curious and appreciate what goes on behind the camera”, Lucas made him realise the importance of direct communication, Noah said.
From Millie, he learnt the importance of embracing his silliness, while Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, taught him that it’s cool to be a nerd. Sadie and Charlie, who play Max and Jonathan, respectively, showed him the importance of embracing his inner child and that true masculinity is rooted in love, kindness and gentle compassion.
Winona, who plays Noah’s on-screen mother, sparked his love for cinema as she introduced him to her favourite classics like Terms of Endearment and Almost Famous. The 20-year-old actor said that growing up, he has always felt like an outcast who is unsure of where he belongs.
“Navigating life in the spotlight while carrying this feeling, through every awkward phase and embarrassing moment exposed for the world to see, has definitely been an unusual experience. But I’ve been honored to share it with my incredible co-stars, who understand it in a way that no one else can,” he wrote in his note.
“With love, El ❤️,” Millie captioned a series of BTS pictures of her from the sets of the show, capturing her shaved-head look in Season 1 to the last day of shooting for the upcoming final instalment of the series. The actress was only 11 when she auditioned for the role of Eleven aka Jane Ives, a young girl with psychokinetic powers. By the time the fourth season aired in 2022, she was 18. As the seasons progressed, Millie’s portrayal of Eleven began to showcase a mix of teenage angst and past trauma as she grappled with the complexities of the real world.
Millie enjoyed herself at an ice skating rink during the shoot for the fourth season of the series. The scene marked the beginning of Eleven’s teenage years as well as her camaraderie with Sadie Sink’s Max as the duo embraced their girlhood.
Millie was all smiles as she got snapped while talking over the phone.
Cut to 2024, the Stranger Things kids are all grown up and have wrapped up the shoot for the final chapter of their show. In a monochrome picture, Winona, who has been like a mother figure for the Stranger Things kids, is surrounded by Finn and Noah, with Caleb lying on the trio’s laps for a hilarious picture.
Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers — Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer — glanced through scenes shot on the last day of filming.
Natalie Dyer holds Charlie Heaton’s hand during a conversation with Joe Keery on set. Fans have always gushed over Natalie and Charlie, who are a couple in the series and in real life.
Another gush-worthy picture shared by the makers is Joe Keery wrapping his arms around Maya Hawke’s shoulders. In the series, Keery’s Steve Harrington has a crush on Hawke’s Robin, but eventually learns that she is a lesbian and accepts her sexuality. Their friendship and playful banter forms a major part of the show’s appeal.
Stranger Things writers started working on Season 5 on August 2, 2022, almost a month after Season 4, Volume 2 premiered on Netflix. The supernatural drama series will conclude with eight episodes, which will likely follow the Hawkins gang’s final adventure as they team up to defeat Vecna once and for all.
