The makers of R. Balki’s sports drama film Ghoomer dropped a short video on Monday, introducing Saiyami Kher as a paraplegic cricketer and Abhishek Bachchan as her coach.

The clip also reveals that Ghoomer will arrive in theatres on August 18 and confirms that its trailer will be out in three days.

The motion poster video comes with Abhishek’s voiceover. “Logically ek hath se koi desh ke liye khel sakta hai? No. Lekin ye life logic ka khel nahi hai, magic ka khel hai (Logically can anybody play for the national team with just one hand? No. But this life is not about logic, it’s about magic),” he says in the video.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Abhishek wrote, “Lefty hai? Left hi hai. #GhoomerInCinemas on 18th August!”

Saiyami also shared the video on Instagram along with a heartfelt note. “There are optimists, pessimists and then there are realists. I’m the third kind. It’s good to be rational and logical. When I was told that I’d be doing a film directed by R. Balki, I couldn’t believe it. Could it really be happening?” she wrote.

Saiyami also mentioned when she first read the script, it became clear that hers was an author-backed role about someone who fights all odds. “If this wasn’t enough, I was playing my favourite sport, cricket. I threw caution to the wind and allowed myself to feel the excitement,” she wrote on social media.

“Slowly, through this film, I realised, that life is about allowing yourself that happiness. About believing in yourself. About giving yourself another chance. I realised that life is so much more worthwhile when you throw the rationality out. Because life isn’t about logic. It’s about magic,” the 31-year-actress signed off.

Apart from Abhishek and Saiyami, Ghoomer will also feature Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles. The story is co-written by Balki with Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani.

Abhishek and Saiyami had previously worked together in Prime Video’s crime thriller series Breathe: Into the Shadows.
