The unknown chapter of India’s Independence is set to make its way to screen with filmmaker-producer Nikkhil Advani collaborating with SonyLIV for Freedom at Midnight. The political drama, based on the non-fiction book by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre that delves into the events around the Indian Independence movement, weaves together untold tales and critical moments from the Partition era.
The book details the last year of the British Raj, from 1947 to 1948, beginning with the appointment of Lord Mountbatten as the last viceroy of British India and ending with the death and funeral of Mahatma Gandhi. The series comprises a stellar cast including Scam 1992 actor Chirag Vohra (as Mahatma Gandhi), Rajendra Chawla (as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) and Jubilee’s breakout star Sidhant Gupta (who plays Jawaharlal Nehru).
“The show has been a result of unwavering dedication and relentless determination. Our commitment to authenticity has been unwavering throughout this journey. This show is a profound tribute to the luminaries of our freedom movement — Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — who courageously led the charge for independence,” is the word from Nikkhil Advani, who serves as the showrunner and director of Freedom at Midnight. The series streams soon on SonyLIV.
