Dhanush’s Vaathi to Amala Paul’s Cadaver: Film buzz from south

The last week of July was an eventful one for the film industries down south. Days after the trailer release of Dulquer Salmaan and Rashmika Mandana-starrer Sita Ramam on July 26, fans were up for another surprise as the makers of Dhanush-starrer Vaathi dropped a teaser of the south superstar’s upcoming film.

Here’s a recap of all the important events that made waves down south and a list of upcoming projects announced.

Vaathi/Sir (Tamil/Telugu)

The makers released the teaser of Venky Atluri’s upcoming film Vaathi starring Dhanush. In Vaathi, Dhanush plays a lecturer who can pack a few punches. The teaser shows Dhanush’s character is named after Independence activist and teacher Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Apart from Dhanush, Vaathi also stars Samyuktha Menon, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu and Aadukalam Naren, among others. The movie has been produced by Naga Vamsi S and Sai Soujanya, under the banners Sithara Entertainments – Fortune Four Cinemas and Srikara Studios.

Cadaver (Tamil)

Disney+ Hotstar released the trailer of their upcoming Tamil investigative thriller Cadaver starring Amala Paul in the lead role. This film also marks Amala’s debut as a producer. Directed by Anoop S Panicker and written by Abhilash Pillai, the film is being touted as a forensic thriller.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of its eerie and dangerous world. Apart from Amala, the cast of Cadaver also includes Athulya Ravi, Harish Uthaman, Riythvika, and Munishkanth. The music of the film is composed by Ranjin Raj.

Cadaver releases on Disney+ Hotstar on August 12 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Luckyman (Kannada)

The teaser of Luckyman, the official Kannada remake of Tamil blockbuster Oh My Kadavule was released by the makers. Luckyman stars Darling Krishna, Sangeetha Sringeri and Roshini Prakash in the lead. The major highlight of the film is the role of late actor Puneeth Rajkumar who plays the character portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi in the original film.

Directed by S Nagendra Prasad, the film has a special song appearance by Prabhu Deva, The film also co-stars Nagabhushana, Arya, Sundar Raj, Sadhu Kokila, Rangayana Raghu, Yogaraj Bhat, Sudha Belwadi and Malavika Avinash.

Mindiyum Paranjum (Malayalam)

The makers have revealed the official poster of upcoming Malayalam film Mindiyum Paranjum, starring National Award-winning actress Aparna Balamurali alongside Unni Mukundan.

Helmed by Arun Bose, who previously directed Luca, the story revolves around a married couple Sanal and Leena. The film is produced by Salim Ahamed.

Web (Tamil)

The makers have released the teaser of a Tamil survival thriller, Web. Directed by Haroon, the teaser presents a mix of horror and thriller. Four girls kidnapped by a serial killer hatch a plan to escape and decide to fight till the end.

Web stars Natty, Shilpa Manjunath, Motta Rajendran, and others. Produced by V. M. Munivelan, the film has music by Karthick Raja. Christopher Joseph has shot the film and Sudharsan R has handled the editing.

Diary (Tamil)

The trailer of Tamil thriller Diary has been released. Directed by Innasi Pandiyan, the film stars Arulnithi and Pavithra Marimuthu as the lead pair. Diary is produced by S Kathiresan and co-produced by Sekar Babu.

The plot revolves around a bus that travels to Ooty and the events that take place during the trip. Arulnithi plays a police officer who happens to board the bus for some investigative purpose.

Captain Miller (Tamil)

Director Arun Matheswaran released a new poster of his upcoming film Captain Miller starring superstar Dhanush.

Produced under the Sathya Jyothi banner, the film is a GV Prakash Kumar musical.
