Ali Fazal-starrer psychological thriller The Underbug, directed by Shujaat Saudagar, is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Slamdance Film Festival in Utah, USA, on January 21.
Fazal, who recently wrapped the shoot for popular Prime Video series Mirzapur Season 3, will be sharing screen space with Hussain Dalal in The Underbug. The film was shot in 2020 between successive lockdowns, enforced in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the makers, it was extensively shot in a house in the interiors of Maharashtra and is currently in post production.
The 36-year-old actor said that he had to gain weight for The Underbug, which was quite challenging. “The film was shot under confusing circumstances at a time which was already a test of patience in the middle of the pandemic,” he said.
“The script was a collaboration of sorts between the actors and the writers and our director. For that matter, even our DOP, whose eyes and lenses were totally in sync with the story we all were trying to tell,” the Fukrey actor added.
According to reports, the film revolves around two individuals, X and Y, who bump into each other on Independence Day as they take refuge in an abandoned house. An eerie presence in that house haunts the men and drives them to the edge of their sanity.
The Slamdance Film Festival will be held in person at Salt Lake City and Park CIty, Utah from January 20-26 and virtually between January 23-29.
