BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said on Sunday that he would write to the Centre to stop sending funds under a scheme for fishermen to Bengal as the state government had purportedly renamed the plan.

The Narendra Modi government has already frozen the flow of funds under several beneficiary schemes to Bengal. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had sat on a dharna for 32 hours in Calcutta in March to press for the release of pending funds.

Adhikari said he would write to the Union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, Parshottam Rupala, to stop sending funds to Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya (Sampada) Yojana.

“The latest circular from the Trinamul (Congress) government has changed the name of Pradhan Mantri Matsya (Sampada) Yojana to Banga Matsya Yojana. I will write to Parshottam Rupala ji tomorrow (Monday) itself to stop the money unless the name is reinstated,” Adhikari said while addressing a state executive meeting of the BJP at the National Library in Calcutta.

Under the Matsya (Sampada) Yojana, financialincentives are granted to fishermen.

Many BJP leaders said on the condition of anonymity that the pause on the flow of more central funds would further alienate villagers.
