Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she would attend “thanksgiving” programmes in Kharagpur Sadar, Karimpur and Kaliaganj Assembly seats which were won by the Trinamul Congress in the recent bypolls.
The chief minister said she would first visit Kharagpur on December 9, which Trinamul’s Pradip Sarkar had wrested from the BJP.
The Trinamul Congress chief, who bumped into Sarkar on the Assembly premises on Monday, lavished praise on him for the victory and urged him to work hard for the welfare of the constituency and its people.
“Very well done, very good…. We are all very pleased with this…. You have done very well (to win), now, it is time to pull out all stops and work for the people,” the chief minister told Sarkar, who defeated the BJP’s Prem Chandra Jha by 20,583 votes.
Sarkar secured nearly 48 per cent votes — a gain of 18 per cent compared to the Lok Sabha poll results.
“I am going there (Kharagpur), will have a thanksgiving programme for the people there, on December 9… before I go to Digha, etc. We will cordially thank the people for these victories,” said Mamata, adding that she would make time for similar visits to the other two constituencies as well.
