“Music binds all the members of our group. It is satisfying if our passion
for music can be useful for the community,” said Rupkatha Sarkar, the principal of La Martiniere for Girls.

The amount has been handed over to Saroj Gupta Cancer Center & Research Institute. The hospital treats several patients at subsidised rates.

After the event, several from the audience came forward to donate their share for the cause.

“People were spontaneously coming forward to contribute to the cause. That is the beauty of our city,” said Imran Zaki, president of Faces (Friends of Alumni of Colleges, Educational Institutes and Schools), the show organiser.

“This is a novel initiative. We usually see children performing on stage but here, the educators were on the stage. They have come together to contribute to a cause,” said Zaki.

While Saturday was the formal launch, the group was formed in May 2023.

During a musical session, a principal from the group came up with the idea of forming a band.

On the piano was motivational speaker Rajlakshmi Syam.

“The idea clicked with all of us and we decided to go ahead,” said Suman Sood, director, BD Memorial Junior School.

Actress and dancer Jaya Seal Ghosh was a guest performer at the event.
